About psi to bar conversion

Tire pressure, air compressors and pressure washers are rated in psi in the United States and in bar across much of Europe and Asia. One psi is 6,894.757 pascals, about 0.0689 bar, so 14.5 psi is almost exactly 1 bar.

1 psi = 0.068948 bar
1 bar = 14.503774 psi
bar = psi × 0.06894757293

How to use this converter

  1. 1

    Enter a value

Type a number into the From box. It starts at 1 so you can see the basic ratio straight away. Thousands separators such as 1,250.5 are accepted.

  2. 2

    Choose your units

This page opens with its own units selected. Use either dropdown to pick any other unit in the category, or tap a unit in the all-units list to make it the target.

  3. 3

    Read the result

The answer updates as you type and the matching formula is shown underneath. There is no Convert button to press.

  4. 4

    Swap, copy or clear

Swap reverses the direction, Copy Result copies a line such as 1 km = 0.621371 mi, and Clear empties the input so you can start again.

Good to know and limitations

Tips

  • Tire gauges show gauge pressure, the pressure above the surrounding air. This tool does not add the roughly 1 atm of atmospheric pressure to give absolute pressure.
  • Rough estimate: divide psi by 14.5 to get bar.
  • Gauge pressure and absolute pressure are not distinguished. A tire reading is gauge pressure.
  • The atmosphere is the standard atmosphere (101,325 Pa). mmHg, torr and inHg are not supported.
  • Results show up to 6 decimal places. Values are not rounded during calculation, and a non-zero result that would display as 0 is shown in scientific notation.
